COLMAR ESTATE 'BLOCK 2' CHARDONNAY 2021 ($50 / Orange Region)

The 2021 Colmar Estate Block 2 Chardonnay, again hand picked, is a mixture of 3 clones harvested earlier than its Reserve sibling. Once the reductive characters blew off, a refreshing wine emerged, releasing and channeling aromas and flavours of rockmelon, citrus and oyster-shell savoury minerality.

The phenolics, tannins and malolactic smoothness blend well to deliver mid-palate grip and freshness.
It is a solid food-friendly wine or as some would call it, an enjoyable 'verandah' drop. We enjoyed ours with a grazing plate where it was a surprisingly good match to slices of Manchego cheese.
