ANGULLONG 'FOSSIL HILL' SANGIOVESE 2022 ($30 / Orange Region, NSW)

Gold Medal Winner at the 2023 NSW WINE AWARDS .

Once the initial reductive burnt matchstick overlay blew off, the varietal characteristics emerged. Ripe cherry/ mulberry caramelised sweet'n'sour aromas & flavours jostled on the palate. It's currently somewhat angular but shows structure. It's definitely a food-friendly wine which would benefit from some cellaring.
