KILIKANOON ‘ORACLE’ SHIRAZ 2019

KILIKANOON ‘ORACLE’ SHIRAZ 2019 ($96 / Clare Valley, SA)

This week I am talking about another Shiraz, because with Shiraz this good, it is no wonder that Shiraz is Australia’s most loved/famous/superb wine.

The vast majority of Australia’s 2,500 wineries make a Shiraz wine, so it is a huge challenge to stand out from the crowd. Some do it through having made top quality Shiraz for decades, like Clare Valley’s A.P. Birks Wendouree, McLaren Vale’s d’Arenberg Wines, Coonawarra’s Wynns as well as Penfolds & Henschke Wines. Others came along more recently and have been garnering accolades and followers through the sheer quality of their Shiraz, Like Barossa’s Rockford Wines. Beechworth’s Giaconda Wines and a few others.

Today’s wine is from this group, it is the Kilikanoon ‘Oracle’ Clare Valley Shiraz, their flagship wine. Since its creation in 1997 this wine has been crowned “Best Shiraz in the world” three times.

The 2019 Kilikanoon Wines Oracle Shiraz is a stupendous wine, almost black in colour with an intense, complex bouquet of plums, cassis and a splash of chocolate- most attractive. The palate is deep, dense, loaded with divine mouth filling flavours of great concentration leading to a magnificent, long lingering finish.

This wine makes a brilliant accompaniment to bigger richer autumn/winter meals be they meat based or vegan.

TRULY DROP DEAD GORGEOUS!!
