PETER LEHMANN WINES 2022 BAROSSAN X- RADICAL SHIRAZ ($23 / Barossa Valley, SA)
This week I am talking about Barossa Valley red wine. The Barossan wine story dates back to 1842 and the region has been rather staid in its wine varieties for most of that time. Little changed from the early days until the “Vine Pull Scheme” in the late 1980’s when many ancient vines including Doradillo, Gewurztraminer, Semillon and ancient Grenache were ripped out due to the wine glut.
What was left stayed pretty much the same until the turn of the century when a few adventurous growers planted new emerging varieties, like Zinfandel, Durif etc.
Well today’s wine is a very clever combination of the old and the new.
The Peter Lehmann Wines 2022 BAROSSAN X- RADICAL SHIRAZ, is a Barossa Shiraz wine that has had a twist of Touriga Nacional added to it to differentiate it from other twisted Shiraz wines in the Barossan X range- as they say Barossa re-imagined.This clever contemporary styled wine is vivid purple in colour with exciting aromas of black and blue berries plus a faint trace of violets- most appealing. The palate is fabulous, with masses of juicy attractive flavours, great depth and a degree of complexity leading to a lovely, lingering finish, making it a great food wine.
UTTERLY DELICIOUS & BRILLIANT.
This ripper and the other interesting wines in the Barossan X can be found at www.peterlehmannwines.com and are well worth checking out.
