SAPLING YARD 2024 FIORI ($30 / Canberra, NSW)
As per its name, this 2024 Fiori (flowers), an eclectic blend of Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Blanc from Canberra and surrounding cool-climate regions, teases with initial wafts and twirls of rose petals.
However it's the persistent top notes of Gewurztraminer's (albeit with only 5% contribution) musk and rosewater that deliver the aromatic length of nose and palate.
Well supported by the crisp Riesling (60%) component and the lingering astringent cut-through of the Pinots, the resulting drop is subtly smooth yet grippy, refreshing and definitely food-friendly.
It's a thoughtful blend of liveliness and interest... one to be shared and savoured.
We matched ours with an Asian-inspired tofu and garden greens stir-fry.
