ANGULLONG 'CROSSING RESERVE' HARRIET 2019

ANGULLONG 'CROSSING RESERVE' HARRIET 2019 ($48, Orange, NSW)

This week we are going to Orange. No, not the “orange wine” style but rather to the picturesque, high country wine region of NSW. Centred round the extinct volcano of Mount Canobolas which rises up to 1,395 metres above sea level. There are a growing number of excellent boutique winemakers in the area, producing more and more outstanding wines including a growing number of emerging variety wines.

One of the stars of the region is ANGULLONG VINEYARD located in Millthorpe, whose wines I have been reviewing for a number of years and are always consistently good.

Their “Fossil Hill” range includes a number of quality wines made from native Italian varieties. These include Vermentino, Barbera, Sangiovese, Sagrantino and their delightful Montepulciano. All of which I would happily serve to my friends and family.

Recently, I discovered a new and impressive wine of theirs, the ANGULLONG ‘CROSSING RESERVE’ HARRIET 2019 – a blend of Sangiovese, Sagrantino and Montepulciano, which to the best of my recollection is a blend that I have not seen or tried before.

The wine is red/purple in colour with a complex, lively bouquet of red berries, dried herbs and spices. The palate is silky-smooth and elegant with complex layers of flavour and slightly tight, fine tannins on the long, lingering finish. This is a sophisticated, world-class wine that is a joy to enjoy.

Be sure to check this and the other excellent wines in the Angullong Vineyard range.

Cheers! Have a great week, stay safe and #chooseaustraliawine.
