ANGULLONG 'FOSSIL HILL CHARDONNAY 2022

ANGULLONG 'FOSSIL HILL CHARDONNAY 2022 ($30, Orange, NSW)

This week we are travelling to the hashtag#orange region in New South Wales, which is centred around Mount Canobolas. In recent times this cool-climate region has been producing some absolute cracker wines and is becoming known for its superb hashtag#chardonnay .

Today’s wine is one such Chardonnay, made from vines planted 25-years-ago on the southern slopes of the region. The Angullong ‘Fossil Hill’ Chardonnay 2022 is a sensational cool-climate Chardonnay. The 2022 vintage was the coolest and latest that Angullong had experienced. The winter was wetter than usual giving the vines a great start to the growing season. The cool growing season meant that harvest was commenced three weeks later than normal and this slower maturation rate is demonstrated in the elegance and sophistication of this Chardonnay.

So the ‘Fossil Hill’ Chardonnay 2022 has a lovely cool-climate bouquet of limes and peaches with a hint of steeliness. The palate is gorgeous and while very tasty, it is still tight with the divine fruit flavours yet to overcome the current flinty acidity of the wine.

Given some cellaring and a bit of patience this wine will blossom into a magnificent, complex, top-notch Chardonnay as it is a real class act.

To check out this divine wine and the rest of Angullong Vineyard's excellent range (I have yet to taste a wine of theirs that I did not like!!) such as their Sagrantino, Montepulciano or Malbec, click on the link below. Cheers, Dan T
