HAHNDORF HILL WINE REGION “THE FOUNDLING” SAINT LAURENT 2020 ($65 / Adelaide Hill, SA)
Talk about “getting in on the ground floor” this is the very first St Laurent produced in Australia and probably the whole Southern Hemisphere.
Vibrant, bright purple in colour, attractive fragrant bouquet of strawberries, cherries, red currants, violets with little dash of spice and a smidge of white pepper- most appealing. The fine palate is silky smooth, superbly tasty being quite rich and round, with great depth and very elegant tannins. It is AN UTTER DELIGHT!!!
In what can be considered to be an outstanding debut, it has scored:
• Gold Medal - Frankfurt International Trophy 2022, Germany
• Gold Medal - Berlin Wine Trophy 2022, Germany
• Silver Medal - AWC Vienna International Wine Challenge 2022, Austria
I would love to line this wine up against some of the top Austrian Sankt Laurent wines as I am sure this Aussie hero would acquit itself admirably in such distinguished company.
