YALUMBA VINE VALE 2023 GRENACHE BLANC ($35 / Barossa Valley, SA)
This week I am talking about a little know relative/ mutation of the increasingly more popular red variety Grenache.
Somewhere along the way in the vineyards of Rhone a white mutation of Grenache occurred. It is allowed to be up to 10% of the Rhone white blends, but no more than that. Rarely seen on its own it is also grown in Spain. Recently #grenacheblanc became the 5th most planted white variety in France despite the fact that it is seldom seen as a straight varietal wine.
It produces a high alcohol, low acidity wine with citrus & herbaceous overtones. It needs strong control in the vineyard to prevent it from producing a flabby wine.
Today’s wine is the Yalumba Vine Vale 2023 Barossa Valley Grenache Blanc (Vegan). This is a delightful wine with elegant aromas of florals & pears and a hint of peach. The palate is beautifully rounded, juicy, full flavoured with a classy silky, refreshing finish, making it A CLASS ACT!!
