SOUMAH WINES 2023 MARZEMINO

SOUMAH WINES 2023 MARZEMINO ($38 / Yarra Valley, Vic)

Have you heard of Marzemino? A native Italian red variety which originates from the cool/cold Trentino/ South Tyrol region to the north of Milan and Venice, where it usually is made as a straight varietal wine.

It is also found around Lombardia where it is used in blends with Barbera, Merlot &/or Sangiovese.

Here in Australia there are currently four producers, all of whom are located in the cooler areas of Victoria.

In the vineyard #marzemino has a very long growing season, ripening late, is prone to fungal diseases and susceptible to over cropping if not strictly controlled.

Today’s wine is the excellent Soumah Wines 2023 Yarra Valley Marzemino.

It is deep, inky purple in colour with a vibrant bouquet of ripe cherries, plums and just a hint of dried herbs. The palate is gorgeous, mouth filling, medium depth with delightful flavours of cherries, plums and bright acidity on the long lingering finish.

AN OUTSTANDING EXAMPLE of this rare variety.
