This Italian varietal has found muscular expression in the Mudgee region. It initially releases aromas and flavours reminiscent of dried herbs and mixed spices.
On breathing the fruit profile morphs towards blueberry/mulberry range, with wafts of almond and leather. It shows good balance between the grippy acid mid-palate and fine tannins.
The 14.5% Alc component allows for a smooth palate glide of those fulsome varietal attributes.
We enjoyed ours with a Moroccan-spiced lamb casserole.
